Chuck Madinger, founder and former owner of Madinger Wines, was born and grew up in Indianapolis. He arrived in St. Louis in 1974 and began a career in the wine business shortly thereafter. At the same time, through the research of a cousin, he learned that the Madinger family had been making wine in Germany since 1538 and continued to do so.   In 1986 Chuck and his wife “Pat” began Madinger Wines, specializing in the wines of Germany. The Mödinger wines were one of their first selections. Over the years the company grew, and the wines of several other countries were added.   In their travels they learned many interesting stories from the winemakers they met. Chuck believes that through personal wine tastings he can share these stories and bring his experiences to life.   As he approached “retirement” Chuck’s search for someone to continue his vision led him to Dan and Julie Garland, who through their diligence and hard work, have successfully brought Madinger Wines into the 21st century. Although no longer responsible for the operation of the business, Chuck continues to call upon many of his friends who are also customers.   One of Chuck’s favorite sayings is this toast: “Here’s to wine where all women are beautiful, all men are wise, and even one’s children begin to show promise.”
